Awareness workshop on the Local Government Election Expenditure Regulation Act

Arrangements were made to conduct training programs at the Sammanthurai Divisional Secretariat today (4) under the Awareness Program Program by the Elections Commission to educate candidates contesting the Local Government Council elections.

An awareness workshop for candidates of political parties and independent groups contesting the Sammanthurai, Navithanveli, and Iramamam Pradeshiya Sabha elections regarding the Election Expenditure Regulation Act No. 03 of 2025 was held at the Divisional Secretariat Auditorium under the chairmanship of Sammanthurai Divisional Secretary S.L. Muhammad Haneepa.

The above workshop was organized by the District Assistant Elections Department on the advice and guidance of the Digamadulla District Elections Returning Officer and District Secretary, Chinthaka Abeywickrama.

Expenses incurred for campaign activities in the upcoming election to be held on May 6th, expenses incurred for holding meetings, expenses for printing activities,

Candidates were informed about the costs and other expenses incurred due to advertisements in print/electronic media and social media.

The workshop was attended by District Elections Dispute Resolution Office In-charge and District Planning Director M.A. Munaseer and Ninthavur Divisional Secretariat Deputy Planning Director A.P. Zulfikar as resource persons and clarified the election expenses to the candidates.

A large number of political party and independent candidates contesting in the Sammanthurai Pradeshiya Sabha, Navithanveli Pradeshiya Sabha and Iramam Pradeshiya Sabhas attended the event.
